The Wilmington area averages just shy of sixty inches of rain a year, and it doesn't arrive politely. Summer thunderstorms drop an inch in half an hour; a passing tropical system can deliver a season's worth in a weekend. When that much water comes off a roof at once, undersized or clogged gutters don't merely overflow — they sheet water straight down against the foundation, and around here that means one thing: a wet crawlspace. Most homes from Castle Hayne to Carolina Beach sit on vented crawlspaces, and the moisture, mold, and floor-joist problems that start under there are far more expensive than any gutter job ever gets.

Salt air is the second local tax. Within a few miles of the water, bargain steel fasteners rust-streak fascia boards in a couple of seasons, and cheap miters give up early.
